About Prepare Canada

Prepare Canada is a personal safety, assertiveness and self-defense training program.

We are a chapter of IMPACT personal safety, an international organization which is part of a comprehensive effort to prevent sexual assault and other acts of personal violence.

Our classes emphasize these principles:
SELF-DEFENSE IS FOR EVERYONE.
Prepare Canada believes that everyone has the right to keep themselves safe. We teach effective self-protection skills that work for a diverse group of ages, sizes, and physical abilities.
VIOLENCE CAN COME FROM PEOPLE WE KNOW.
We recognize that the majority of sexual assaults and other violations are committed by people close to us. Prepare Canada teaches effective strategies for addressing situations in which the person not respecting our boundaries is a partner, family member, or other familiar person.
SELF-DEFENSE IS NOT ALWAYS ABOUT FACING DANGER.
Setting good boundaries is something you can do every day. Speaking up about uncomfortable or unsafe situations in our everyday lives helps create safety for ourselves and others.
THE BEST FIGHT IS NO FIGHT.
More than 90% of violent situations can be avoided using words alone. The best strategies to stay safe are to have good awareness, project self-confidence and use your voice effectively. Prepare Canada will give you methods to recognize potential conflict and make your voice and body language be strong, clear and confident, even if you're feeling uncomfortable or afraid.
IF YOU MUST FIGHT, FIGHT HARD.
We feel that using force should be the last option. However, if that moment ever arises our desire is for you to fight with all of your power and spirit. Students train with our padded instructors to hit as hard as they possibly can, with calmness and focus.
By the end of the course, you will have learned how to:
  • increase your ability to stay safe.
  • project self-confidence.
  • use your voice effectively.
  • fight back in a rape situation.
  • defend yourself from a surprise attack.
  • fight if you are on the ground or pinned to the ground.
  • use your voice and words to make someone leave you alone.
  • know if and when your words aren't working and what to do next.
  • know when someone you know might be a threat to you.
  • de-escalate a threatening or uncomfortable situation.
  • ask for what you need from people in your day-to-day life.
Take action to increase your personal safety. Contact us to sign up for our 20-hour course or to organize a private class.
“I was struck by the simplicity and effectiveness of the techniques taught - any woman can learn them - any woman can protect herself. I have received in 20 hours what 2 years of martial arts training has not (and could never) give me: confidence to survive an attack through techniques that work for a woman. I loved the support from all group members.“
